Hi,

This was a surprise, but I should have expected it.

My new M1 iPad Pro 12.9 just arrived. The cable in the box is a USBC to USBC cable. However, I have a late 2015 iMac which...you guessed it...does not have a USBC port. So I cannot connect my nice new iPad Pro to my nice middle-aged iMac.

Bugger!

My iMac does have 4 USB-3 ports (compatible with USB-2) and 2 Thunderbolt-2 ports.

Meaning I need to buy a new cable. But which is best? USBC to USB3 or USBC to Thunderbolt 2? Or possibly synching over WiFi? But to do that, don't I have to cable the iPad to the iMac first, to set up an iTunes Library? Yes, I'm still using iTunes.

So, which cable should I buy for synching?

And how can I synch over WiFi having never connected my iPad to my iMac?

Cheers.

Or if you prefer a straight cable:
I actually use this on on my iMac. The advantage to the apple usb a to usb c adapter is if you have other accessories with a usb a cable attached, you can use the adapter.

Is this compatible with my late 2015 iMac? Tech specs say 2017 iMac.

Post 3 had a Belkin, but if you want to save money, you can get TWO Anker cables for less than half the price of the one Belkin:

Anker is a trusted name too.
