I just sold an iPad Pro M2 11 inch and replaced it with a M5 version of the same iPad. I then bought my wife the new a16 iPad. Both of them are experiencing screen freezes where you can’t turn the iPad off with the slider or swipe away apps. It doesn’t happen all the time. Is anyone else having these glitches with their iPads? There’s a fix for it, where you press the volume button up and let go, press the volume button down and let go, and then hold the power button and it restarts then the screen responds again. Also, several apps are just collapsing and not opening unless you restart the iPad again. Both are running the new version of IOS 26.2.1

What you are describing is definitely not normal. I have 4 iPads and none of them have done what yours have. I would wipe both iPads and set up as new. It sounds like the software may have gotten corrupt during an update.
Well it appears you are lucky . Thanks for posting but take a look at these articles and there are numerous other ones everywhere. People are calling this the worst iOS update ever. Apparently it affects all kinds of things besides screen freezing it affects multitasking. The slide bar, and battery usage. Apps collapse, and won’t open. Just take a look at the comment section below the first article. There are numerous other articles as well.

As @Apple_Robert said this is not normal. We have two iPhones and two iPads pros on iOS 26/ipados 26 and they all work as expected. My iPad is an iPad Pro m5 and the other iPad is an iPad Pro m1. Both running iPadOS 26 with no issues. We updated to 26.2.1. The article cited used the term widespread. My anecdotal opinion would be to replace the term widespread with “some customers.”

I also for a brief period had an iPad Air m3 with no issues. This was returned in favor of the m5.

Confirming: not normal. Have an m5 ipad pro and have not seen this.
Have you googled this on the Internet and a looked at all the posts, or is this just your personal opinion? I’m just wondering. Also, I didn’t mention I went to Best Buy where I bought these two and spoke with the geek squad. I know they’re not always the most knowledgeable but they do this for a living. They have told me that several people have tried to return iPads and iPhones because of these exact issues. And they showed people the work arounds. I’ve done a lot of digging on this. There are lots of Reddit threads, including people talking about this update bricking their Apple devices. In addition, there are several threads on here where people have had issues with multitasking. And other issues.

I am confirming that based on my experience using an actual M5 ipad pro every day for a month - *i have not seen this*. I run a variety of things on this ipad, including using it as a laptop/low workload desktop plugged into a 32” monitor running extended display.

Take that for what it’s worth. I haven’t done any googling for the issue because, as i said above “I HAVE NOT SEEN THIS”. I’m using this device right now, running 26.2.1.

Possibly you have some buggy software that is causing an issue.

If your device is doing weird stuff: take it back.

Two brand new devices doing the same thing? And you’re thinking this is random. A brand new M5 iPad 11 inch and a brand new iPad A16. Additionally look at some threads on this platform. I do appreciate you posting, but I’m scratching my head what you’re saying doesn’t make any sense. It makes it sense that you’re not having a problem yet. I also have an iPhone 16 Pro Max and after this upgrade, it’s having issues with Apple CarPlay. That’s another one of the bugs listed here. Really big lag times on certain apps. Granted it could be some car software, but other people are listing similar problems. Did you look at the comment section of that article, the first one, I posted it’s full of bugs.

Not saying zero people are having issues. I have no idea what other people are seeing.

I’m saying : “It’s not normal” and “I have not seen this issue on my device” and “It’s probably not supposed to have issues like that”.

I’m not saying i don’t believe you are experiencing problems, or that others are potentially experience problems. I am literally saying the words i typed. Nothing more.

As i said, given you’re seeing it on TWO different devices with different SOC in them, the common factor is likely the software you have installed on them. Or possibly something in your icloud account. I doubt it is a hardware problem. Possibly a bug in the OS that i am not encountering for whatever reason,

Either way, i’d call apple about it and see if it’s a known issue, potentially with some software you have on your device. Apple phone support has been pretty good for me in the past when i have had issues with IOS (which admittedly was back in iOS 6).

I get what you’re sayin. However, there are people on Reddit threads calling this the worst upgrade ever calling it Apple’s version of Windows Vista. This is because of all the bugs.

There are people on the internet who bitch about every software release whether it’s from apple or microsoft saying it’s the worst ever, they’re changing platform, etc. This isn’t unusual or new.

If you read the threads on here i’m sure you can find it about every release going back to at least IOS 7 with the flattening.

I don’t think they’re bitching they’re actually posting problems. Like multitasking issues, the control panel turning white when swiping down. The wallpaper on the iPad only showing and the screen unresponsive and massive battery drain on older iPad Pros. Even data corruption . Most of them are trying to revert back to the older iOS and they can’t. That’s just some of the stuff I am seeing here.

Like i said, go back to previous years and you’ll see similar complaints about every release.

Not saying that the problems don’t exist: more that the percentage impacts is a small but very vocal minority. You don’t get complaints (or anything else, generally) posted by the 99% who experience no problems.
