never owned one and looking to get the 3, about making the purchase, is there any advantage to buying for a specific dealer? the 50$ appstore promo is only through apple.com?

No real advantages, except from Apple.com, as you said you get the $50 education App Store voucher and you get the option to engrave your iPad (wouldn't recommend though as it reduces resell value drastically.)

Great point i never thought about that actually. Glad i decided not to do that on my new ipad preorder, i was worried about it not getting to me on time.
