Purchased an iPad Air about a month or so ago.
All set up and working fine - all software/apps up to date.
Not something I use very often to be honest, just purchased for a single 3D modelling app that I use on occasion - hence why I just went with the cheaper Air rather than a Pro.

However, once or twice a month, I notice that I wake the iPad and it requests my passcode stating 'Passcode is required after a reboot'.
So it seems to be rebooting itself for no apparent reason - no background apps running, also checked to ensure it does not download or update automatically, etc
How can I track this down as to what is causing the reboot?

Asking for passcode after x amount of hours is normal. It is part of the OS user ID protection feature.
There is are different messages for these conditions though… I think it just says “passcode is required to enable Face ID” or something like that when it’s the time-based one, as opposed to the message that indicates it’s the result of restarting (which the OP indicates is what he is seeing).

No its actually stating that the passcode is required after a reboot

Perfectly explains it - this is precisely what's happening! As I said, I only use the iPad on occasion when I need to 3D model something, so it does just sit unused in between, hence why this article makes perfect sense!
Thank you! Glad its not something wrong!

Can confirm my iPad Pro M4 rebooted sometime this week. I though it installed OS 26, but its still under 18.7.1.
