iPad remote screen mainstage

Hi! Just bought a MacMini server for live music playing with apple mainstage. I'm looking for a small touchscreen monitor for changing/choosing sounds realtime on stage.
I already noticed that the iPad will do this via VNC (video on youtube). Has anyone experience with this setup? Is it stable? Is it quick enough for my purpose? Are there other ways to use the iPad as a external monitor with the MacMini?
