I use an Ipad mini at night while observing with my telescope and it's screen emits a light blue glow that has to be dimmed down to retain night vision. My request is can someone comment on the new Ipad Air or Rmini under these conditions? Does the new IGZO displays still put out this glow. Take your older ipad and the new one in pitch black room and turn down the brightness. Is the new one dimmer?

Unfortunately the nature of the beast of passage backlight LCD technology dictates that there is no way completely block light while on. Hopefully Apple will take the plunge and switch to OLED next year. OLED allows a TOTAL black/off state and would be much better for your needs (along with otter advantages).

My hope is that it's a bit less than my current mini and 4th gen ipad. I do have a dark red cling cover for the display that reduces it greatly, but it would be nice to not have to use it all.
