All iPads Ipad SD card reader problems

I have a 128gb SD card for my camera and when I want to check or view the pictures I've taken on the ipad I use Apple's SD card reader. On smaller cards, it works but on the 128 it always says "contents not available - cannot read the connected storage media". I've tried this on a few iPads and its never worked.
I've had the SD card for nearly a year and if it had been a firmware thing I would have thought they would have fixed it by now.... Any ideas?

Don't know which SD card reader you are using. If you are using the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader the Apple support site states, "SDXC (supported only when not formatted as ExFAT)". If this is the case you may need to reformat your 128GB SDXC card to another supported format.

I don't know if the older 30 pin SD card reader even supports SDXC cards.
