I was thinking of using my old iPhone like an iPad. I don't want any voice service on it, only data, like an iPad. I was thinking just replace the iPhone sim card with an iPad sim card, but figure it runs off the IMEI or something and won't allow you to do this, correct? Has anyone tried this or is it even possible?

Yep, not sure which carrier you use but if ATT they will send you a message that the device is not provisioned correctly and if you ignore, they will take the liberty of tacking on a voice plan.

Cricket isn't CDMA anymore, they're GSM. And unfortunately, they don't have an iPad plan (I've looked). If you bring an iPad to them, you basically end up getting a phone plan, just can't use voice.
