iOS iPad Simulator keyboard messed up

I was testing an app tonight on my iPad simulator. Everything was fine then all of the sudden the onscreen keyboard split in 2 and shrunk down?

I assumed I hit a command + someKey but when I looked in the simulator I didn't see anything?

Is this normal thing you can turn on and off? How can I restore this to normal?

Yes it's normal. Click and hold on the bottom right button on the right section and choose the "Dock and merge" option
