iPad Smart Cover Compatibility

Hello!

I want to get an iPad (2018) for Christmas along with a Smart Cover. However, I am not very happy with the colors available and was wondering whether the iPad Pro 9.7" Smart Covers would also fit especially regarding the magnetic polarity. Has anyone tried it out?

They don’t fit. I know this because the current iPad covers don’t fit my 9.7 inch Pro. Thus the converse would also be true.
