Ipad sound is acting really weird

Hey there, first post here, any help would be really appreciated.

Just bought a 64g Ipad 2. Was working fine for the first week and then the sound began to act up. I put on Music and the volume goes, the toggle even disappears. Then I try to turn it up on the side switch and the volume display doesn't even pop up. The clicks have disappeared but come in and out sometimes. It's the same for video, in fact the volume display has disappeared now!

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? my OS is up to date.

Maybe I'm deaf...
