(This is actually for a friend of mine, who lives a few hours away, as I don't own an iPad)

The iPad stopped working a few days ago, nothing he does will get it to do anything:
  • Plugging it in (yes, the charger works fine, it works on his phone), does nothing, not even showing a red battery
  • Computer does not recognize it, tried getting it into DFU mode, it never did anything, no screen activity whatsoever.
Unfortunately I do not know the exact model, besides it being a basic iPad (no air or pro) and supporting iOS 18.

Does anyone know why this happened, how to fix it? He lives a few hours away from the nearest Apple Store, so it will be a while before he can bring it in (if it can't be resolved).

It will be difficult to find a solution if the device no longer shows any symptoms. Only Apple Support will be able to help here.

DFU is a very tricky thing to get into if you are not super precise. Is there an Apple Store or AASP near your friend?
