iPad video streaming to apple tv

Is it possible to stream video (including avi, divx, mkv etc) from your mac/networked hard drive, to your apple tv, via your iPad using AirPlay?

This is my idea of a work around to get the apple tv to play non iTunes video without having to jailbreak the apple tv.

Has anyone attempted this? Any other ideas?!

I think AirVideo should work for you assuming your Mac is awake and running the server. If your looking to bypass that step, then I'm not sure. Good luck!

Also read about something called "AirFlick". This can apparently send any video type straight to your apple tv.
