iPad WiFi slower than on Mac

I have 35mbps broadband and speediest verifies I'm getting that speed on my MBP. But my 3rd gen iPad only gets 1/3 of that speed even when right next to my AEBS. How can I get full speed? Or is this a limitation of the iPads WiFi chip?
