FedEx dropped off my iPad2 dock this afternoon. It doesn't look like Apple put any real thought into making the dock compatible with the Smart Cover, which is a bit of a disappointment. The iPad2 will not fit in the dock with the Smart Cover closed over the screen, though you don't need to remove the Smart Cover to set the iPad2 in the dock, the cover just needs to be off the screen. Once the iPad is seated you can fold the cover back over the screen. The Smart Cover will bulged out where it goes over the lip on the front of the dock but there is still enough contact for the smart cover to put the iPad to sleep. I'll snap a few pictures in a bit to better illustrate what I'm talking about.

 I might end up returning mine if it's described as above. I wanted to sit the iPad on the dock. Not open the iPad up, sit it on the dock, close the iPad

Pics??

Not the best pictures. Shot at high ISO I didn't feel like pulling out the flash even though there wasn't a lot of light. I converted them to B&W to make things stand out a bit more.

You can see how the smart cover must be folded over the dock

The last picture shows how the iPad will not fit in the dock with the Smart Cover folded flat against the screen

iPad 2 dock

iPad 2 will fit in the iPad 1 dock with the smart cover on. It works very well actually, as the iPad 1 dock doesn't have the lip in front like iPad 2 dock has.

I have an incipio feather case on the back - smart cover on the front, and it docks perfectly, with or without either.:D

Will the iPad 2 fit into the iPad's dock with the Smart Cover on? That's perfect if so.

I have returned my iPad dock because the iPad 2 was unstable when it's mounted. The iPad dock was designed for the original thicker model and the new iPad is too thin to sit securely without putting stress onto the connector (it wobbles back and forth and it will take a few tries to mount it correctly with one hand)

Save yourself the trouble and just get the dock that was designed for the iPad 2.

I find it very odd that the iPad Dock 1 is a better dock for the iPad 2, when it comes to leaving the Smart Cover on that is.

I got my iPad 2 dock today.

You CAN dock it with the smart cover on - just roll it into a triangle on the back. It works just fine. No need to take it off first.
