Apple may be planning to expand the iPhone's Battery Health menu to upcoming iPad models, based on evidence uncovered in the iPadOS 17.5 beta.

iPad-Battery-Feature.jpg

As discovered by MacRumors contributors Steve Moser and Aaron Perris, there are several new references to a Battery Health menu on the iPad within the code for the first iPadOS 17.5 beta, which was released to developers earlier this week. The menu is expected to show an iPad battery's maximum remaining capacity and cycle count.

A sample of the code strings added in the iPadOS 17.5 beta:

  • "iPad must be regularly used while not connected to power to show maximum capacity."
  • "This is the number of times iPad has used your battery's capacity."
  • "The iPad battery is performing as expected."
  • "iPad batteries, like all rechargeable batteries, have a limited lifespan and may eventually need to be serviced or replaced."
  • "The original battery was designed to retain X capacity at X cycles under ideal conditions. Actual battery performance depends on a number of variables, including how iPad is used and charged regularly. The one-year warranty includes service for defective batteries in addition to rights provided under local consumer laws."

There is no visible Battery Health menu on any existing iPad models on the first iPadOS 17.5 beta, leading us to believe that the menu may be limited to the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models that are rumored to launch in May, and likely other new iPads released in the future. Apple has shown battery capacity information on iPhones for many years, but cycle count information is currently limited to the latest iPhone 15 series.

Apple will likely release iPadOS 17.5 to the public in May. Given this is a code finding in a beta, we cannot guarantee that a Battery Health menu will be added to the iPad, but it is certainly something that Apple has been working on.

wow, from no battery capacity % being displayed to both % and the cycle count being displayed. if only they made iPadOS run macOS apps, then I wouldn't sell my iPad pro. They don't even need to bring macOS to iPad, just make it run %95 of mac apps with mouse&keyboard (or magic keyboard) with well integrated files support (or just bring finder to iPad @ this point). If they pull something like this i'm definitely getting a m3 iPad Pro

This is funny to see because I was literally just looking for this menu on my iPad Pro 30 minutes ago. For some reason the battery life on my M1 iPad Pro 12.9" has been terrible. Even standby is bad. I haven't even been using Stage Manager or anything crazy, mainly Safari and YouTube when I look at my activity from the past 10 days.

There is an app called Coconut Battery that will give battery information including cycle counts, date of manufacture, etc. It definitely contains quite a bit of information.
I just searched and cannot find and app by this name.
One can find this info in their device analytics though.
Apple once again locking software features to latest hardware…. Why am I not surprised. There are about 2 specific apps that keep me using an iOS device, and I’m not sure it’s worth it anymore.

Coconut battery is a MacOS app that can measure iPad/iPhone battery when connected to a Mac.

Ive noticed recently that battery drain on my iPads in standby is sometimes an issue... there is drain whether I have bluetooth or wifi on or off at night...

Im hoping another update will fix it... its happened before in the past.

I remember my first gen iPad was rock solid on standby... probably not doing half as much... but if wifi and bluetooth are 'off'....

lets hope

Sorry to hear that.

Our 11" from launch day 2018 still has amazing battery life. It's basically a kids drawing/gaming device and a nighttime sound machine nowadays, but it can go two days without a charge. I wonder if this new feature will work on my device.

It's still my favorite Apple device (though the base model M3 MBA is coming up close!) but I just have no need for it most of the time. :-/

It’s about time!!!! Also iPad needs an Apple calculator app…

"iPad batteries, like all rechargeable batteries, have a limited lifespan and may eventually need to be serviced or replaced."

Is it actually possible to "service" an older battery without replacing it?

That’ll probably be the case despite the fact that M1 iPads should have zero issue also displaying this information.

Willing to bet existing M2 iPad Pros won't have it either. This is similar to how iPhone 14 Pro doesn't get the updated battery health info or charge to 80% limit. But iPhone 15 does.
