I finally took the plunge and brought a used iPad Air 5th generation with M1 chip from a trusted reseller that i know off. It is used iPad Air, with pretty good condition. Knowing it is iPad Air M1 chip, iPadOS 26 would be perfect fit, as iPadOS finally makes iPad great again.
However, the more hope that I had with iPadOS 26, the more disappointment that i have. Here are few annoyances.
1. When resizing an app, contents does not resize with the app.
When is content within preview simply cut off rather than resizing with the app? I would think this is most basic things that Apple should get right, isn’t it.
This is what should be, on MacOS.
2. There is no window snapping, instead you have to long press the traffic light and click the option. Sometime, I get confused and dragging the app window with it. If Apple is going to do this, they should do it properly isn’t it.
3. All the apps are default to open in full screen instead of windowed app.
4. Menu bars keeps disappearing. I don’t know if this is intended behaviour, but this does not occur on macOS, unless in full screen mode.
5. This is more or less related with 3rd party apps. Cursor keeps changing from arrow to old style circles when interacting with UI elements (such as menu).
6. If i have external display connected, and bring background app to foreground, it always appears on iPad screen instead of external monitor, even if it was minimized from external monitors.
I don’t want to discussed the terrible UI with iPadOS, but I still don’t believe all the “good reviews” from all these reviewers. iPadOS 26 is still very awkward, it like Apple try to listen feedback from iPad users and making iPadOS more desktop alike. But in the same time, they still want the boundary between iPadOS and macOS.
Maybe, just maybe (and this is my opinion), learn something from Microsoft’s Surface.
