I downloaded files onto my USB drive to use on the plane.
On the plane I opened an MS word file to modify in the MS word app
When the plane landed, I closed my ipad and pulled out the USB drive

Now, if i plug in the USB drive and in the files app click the USB device, it thinks for a minute and then crashes.
Ive also tried this in pdf expert as well, but it also crashes.
Tried the USB drive on a computer, and it works fine, although the file is corrupt, so i just deleted it.

Obviously restarted the iPad, but im worried the only option left is to reset the iPad... Anyone experience this or have a fix?

Gentlepersons,

delete the Files app and reinstall it. At the moment (iPadOS 13.x & 14.01) working with external media is not reliable. Some selected threads:

TL;DR: iPadOS isn‘t there (yet). FileBrowser Go/BIZ is required to copy reliable files FROM your iPad. Direct transfer speeds are are slow (but faster than WLAN). You can not reliably edit files directly on e.g. SD-cards, SSDs, etc.; unplugging external media while the iPad is on creates errors.
