It is limited but I’m not sure we can copy the iPad experience as is on the iPhones even when they have a bit of a bigger screen.

I'm just disappointed that we can't have a landscape mode home screen on the newer phones. A few days ago I was setting up my old iPhone 6s Plus to use as a dedicated camera with the Filmic Pro app and it reminded me of how much I miss that on my 12 Pro Max. :)

iPhone screen will never do true multitasking period. Whatever android boys do their fancy windowed mode on their big android phones, all I see are tiny windows that don’t do much and can’t see duck.
I agree. The space is too small. Do people even use that? The feature looks good on paper but I don’t don’t see myself use it even on a screen that’s 6.7 inches. I do like the split screen on the iPad Pro though. That’s a win. I can do banking, transfer funds, etc…. Very useful.

iPadOS: No
iPhoneOS+: YES!!!

There really should have a tweaked OS with unique features for these Max/Plus sized phones. But for some reason its just the same old phone.... but bigger. (Same goes for the 12.9 iPads vs 11).

I guess that would make more sense 🙂
Yeah, we dont need a full iPadOS. But enhancements like split screen apps, better multitasking or a less ridiculous homescreen layout would be appreciated. (Personally, I'd love pencil support for notes, precise video editing and sketching)

That would make me get an iPhone Pro Max! And I’m currently sporting the 12 mini - of which I’m a big fan 🙂

I don't think it would work very well as it is. I have a 12 Pro Max, and even the iPad Mini offers considerably more screen real estate, both because of the overall larger area, and the wider aspect ratio.

Not so much split screen but I would love slide over on my phone. When the slide over app is off screen I’d want a visual cue and for the app to remain active. But I think that would be very useful on any size phone.
I would only use split screen for video. Picture in Picture is kind of annoying even on an iPad, so much more on an iPhone.
Full landscape orientation support would be very welcome.

I don’t think it would be a good idea.

beta testing iPadOS 15 on my iPad mini showed me that iPadOS really needs that 9.7” or larger. Touch targets were obnoxiously small and some features just felt so awkward on a small screen, like the Shelf. Copy-pasting iPadOS as it is on any iPhone would be a nightmare.

I agree some ipadOS features don’t scale down well on the mini. They seem to be intended for the 12.9 first, being less and less practical as they trickle down to the smaller iPads. But I guess as long as they are optional features, why not.
iPadOS has a tough task, trying to be optimized for both a 12.9” and 7.9” screen.

I think a lot about it too is the aspect ratio and overall device design.

Using iPadOS on a device with a Liquid Retina display just feels so much more natural than a Touch ID iPad (For example, how the gesture are built around having no home button). Even on a Touch ID 12.9 and a Face ID 12.9, the screen design of the Face ID model just makes the experience so much better overall.

I imagine that the upcoming iPad mini will feel so much better with iPadOS thanks to a larger screen but also the Liquid Retina design.

I’m not really sure what you mean. The 12.9 and the mini have the same aspect ratio at 4:3. And not sure how Liquid Retina (rounded corners of the screen) makes the experience better or more natural. They both offer the same gestures as far as I know.

There is still room for improvements with iOS. Doesn't need iPadOS. If you're desperately wanting the functionality of iPadOS on your huge screen iPhone, then it's probably just best to get an iPad.

With all of the extra bezels, it just feels like I'm using a tablet.

With the liquid retina design, it feels way more like the "magic sheet of glass" that Apple likes to refer to the iPad as. There's nothing visible and nothing to touch but the content (and a very small border).

Since the new iPads has the m1 chip. Could a future iPhone do the same?

The M1 chip is essentially what would otherwise be known as the A14X chip.

Considering the thermal constraints inside an iPhone, probably not.
