Apple's iPad was one of the five best-selling electronic devices on Cyber Monday yesterday, November 28, according to new data acquired by Adobe and published in a press release last night. Every iPad appears to be taken into account in Adobe's data, but it's likely that the newest iPad Pro models helped fuel sales thanks to a handful of discounts from various retailers, particularly on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Accompanying the iPad in the best-selling category for Cyber Monday this year were Sony's PlayStation 4, Microsoft's Xbox One, Samsung's line of 4K TVs, and Amazon's Fire tablets. In addition, it was noted that Beats by Dre products -- mainly the company's headphones -- were among the items that were most likely to run out of stock.

In total, 2016's online shopping holiday is on track to hit $3.39 billion in estimated spending, which will mark a 10.2 percent increase in comparison to Cyber Monday in 2015. Once all of the numbers come in, this year's Cyber Monday could be "the largest online sales day in history," and it's already surpassed Black Friday spending this year, which sat at $3.34 billion.
"Cyber Monday is on track to be the biggest online shopping day ever, surpassing our forecast by almost $27 million or 0.8 percent," said Tamara Gaffney, principal analyst, Adobe Digital Insights. "This indicates that consumers still had more appetite for online shopping despite the incredible volume of online sales on Black Friday. Prices are expected to start climbing after today as retailers shift attention to extend the season late into December with quick shipping deals and the option to click and collect in store."
Apple didn't participate directly in Cyber Monday deals, but the company did run a Black Friday offer this year that granted customers up to $150 worth of gift cards on specific product purchases. Last year, the company didn't offer Black Friday deals, opting to allow third-party retailers like Best Buy and Target to do so instead.

Apple's 2016 Black Friday was more like "how-to-get-rid-of-old-stuff"-Day
It's not necessarily "old stuff" if they're still selling it with no new products to take their place. Apple doesn't have to come out with a new product every two months in order to appeal to most customers. Sure, the iPad Pro is a year old, but apparently people still want it. And why not? It functions fine and does what most people would want it to do. The main barrier for many people is Apple's higher purchase price (compared with other tablets). And the recent sales were apparently a good enough purchase incentive.

They discounted old Macs but not the newest ones. So yeah, it was mostly about getting rid of older stock IMO.

I bought a Beats solo 3 for $225 on verizon and Beats solo 2 for $160 at Target. I'm not complaining...oh and that w1 chip in the Solo 3 is amazing.

I can't believe fools still buy BEATS in 2016. Young kids bought these in 2011. They saved hard for these over priced pieces of garbage only to find that the products fell to pieces a few weeks later. A true disgrace of a brand capitalising on stealing peoples money. Plus a ZERO customer services department. Repulsive in every way!

The PowerBeats 2 I've bought two years ago are one of the best products I've ever owned. They're basically perfect, fine-tuned for sport usage.

They still work great, long range and battery is still like day one.

Ditto, I can't speak for the early Beats' products.... But the PowerBeats 2 are awesome sport headphones!

I've never used Beats, but my brother has a recent set of their headphones and he says they are great; I feel that after Apple acquired the company their build and sound quality went way up. Maybe still not entirely worth the asking price, but that's the Apple Tax for you.

Why?

I researched and tried dozens of products before finding that the Powerbeats 2 wireless were amazing, and exactly what I needed. Nothing was close. I needed something that stayed on my ears when I ran, didn't get all yucky with sweat, had good battery life, easy to connect to bluetooth, and sounded good.

Instead of settling for something that didn't work for me, I paid the extra money and got something that was a perfect fit for me.

While I'll agree that Beats cost more than they're worth, they're far from garbage (apart from the original solos). I've had the Beats Mixrs, which I sold when I bought my Senn Momentums, and I use the Powerbeats 2 on a near daily basis. Both were/are great, durable headphones. And while the sound quality, though far from bad, doesn't quite meet the asking price, they excel in just about every other metric. Plus, it seems they are frequently on sale, and in such cases they are very much worth the discounted price.

Yeah, a bunch of iPad Air 2's for 299, iPad Mini 2's for 199, Solo Beats 2's for 119, and wireless Power Beats 2's for 89 bucks. It was a big weekend for clearing out old stock. I know because I bought all of the above for friends and family without stepping foot in an Apple Store.

I agree Apple's Black Friday sale was lackluster, but it wasn't necessarily all "Old Stuff." The iPad Pro (9.7 is less than 8 months old, 12.9, less than a year), iPhone SE (8 months release) and Apple Watch Series 1 (Released 2 months ago).

The gift card incentives were not worth enough to purchase, especially when third party retailers were offering far greater sales over Apple's.

Agreed. I tried to explain to my teenage step son that they not superior. They did to last long (pretty much the length of the warranty). Its my belief, if a company gives or pays for entertainers to be seen wearing the products then its not quality.

The majority of the price you are paying is going to entertainers for their 'endorsement.' Not manufacturing or research.

That'd be a review (of sorts) of what they were selling five years ago. What is your personal experience with what they make now? Twenty years ago, Microsoft was kind of evil. Now they're kind of good. Companies change.

I got 2 iPad Air 2 32 GB for $275.00 ea. Steal of a deal IMHO.

That why they are discounted.

That's the whole point of Black Friday.

Exactly. That's how they shovel out all the older model TVs.....

Guilty, bought an iPad Air 2 for mom, Solo 3 headphones, and Powerbeats 2 for sis for xmas gifts. The solo 3s are mine though :D
