I'm about to buy an iPhone, but wanted to check a couple of things first:

The iPhone I'm about to buy is a 1.1.1, is it ok to unlock it to work on a non AT&T network (Telstra, australia). The phone is in a sealed package, so hasn't previously been unlocked or activated, will the iPhone Dev Team method work fine for getting me up and running with it?

Thanks

i get the feeling it has been, but just want to make sure before i throw down the cash for an iPhone.

unlocking is possible on 1.1.1, but complicated at the moment.

as the developers develop programs designed to unlock, the process will become simpler. get an iphone and either wait, or try to do it now if you think you are up to it.

but yes, it is definitely possible.

Buy a native phone?

I spoke to Telstra the other day and a staff member (not a highly placed one) said that they were currently testing the iPhone on the NextG network right now!

Clearly needs to be taken with a grain of salt, however this is the first time a telstra employee hasn't looked at me and gone "iWhat...???"

Maybe it is not too far away

I for one will probably wait for the 3G version and not an 2G running on the 3G network
