I have strolled around on the forum and typed different search-strings before posting this just to make sure that the exact problem doesn't already exist and have a solution. I have done my best to search for it and found nothing, therefore I hope not to be bashed in by the almighty 'search before you post!'.

I have a well and fully functional Iphone 2G 1.1.1(I bought it that way) complete in its box. It also came with a Ipod/Iphone non-apple charger, for power outlets. The person I bought it off had stated that he could not get it to sync or be found with his PC. I figured it was a simple DFU or recovery mode that was needed in order to get it back on its feet.

Having bought it and played around with 1.1.1 I felt the urge to upgrade since there's alot more fun in later firmware versions. So until then it functioned in all ways it should and I charged it by using the charger that came with it. I wasnt able to try the charger that came from apple since I live in Europe and its an american version.

The facts are these: my Iphone works just fine. It just will NOT be recognized by my computer or itunes. I have tried getting it into recovery mode with the usb plugged in, but nothing happens. I have tried leaving the iphone plugged into the computer for long periods of time hoping that it might just pop up after some time. I have tried 3 different usb-cables and I have tried it through the dock that came with it.

It charges just fine through that non-apple charger in the wall. But I am afraid of trying to put it in DFU mode and it not being detected by anything, as usual, and then not being able to get it back to its regular functional state. And then be stuck with a brick instead of a somewhat decent Iphone.
I read all different forums I could find and searched with as many search-strings as I have hairs on my head. I depleted youtube on videos concerning any issue with Iphone 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 that could be close to mine. If I would have spent the same amount of hours working with ANYTHING on this planet I would probably be rich by now. But Im not hating :) if I just manage to discover the problem it will well be worth it.

Any ideas? ;)
