I have an iphone11. I have never used my phone to play back music before when going on walks, but the last couple of days I have. I go for 1 hour and 15 min walk, playing music from iTunes. When I get home the phone is warm and the battery has dropped in half. Since I got this phone late last summer it has had great battery life. Just wonder if this is normal. I probably will get back to using my shuffle for walks.

If the outside air temperature is warm, all iPhones will feel uncomfortably warm(er) when they're doing something

Yeah but one hour of music playing with screen off should not drain the battery by half.

OP, anything in the battery settings showing high usage?

OP, definitely check out @Freakonomics101 ‘s suggestion to get more insight. Also, are you 100% sure that you had downloaded the music prior and not streamed Apple Music or similar while on the go?

Best success for the troubleshooting!

No the music all saved on iTunes. My Cds ripped on to iTunes. Its music I have had for years. I will check my battery settings. I'm and old guy not really into streaming.

I have an 11 Pro Max and I have all my purchased music downloaded from iTunes onto my phone and I listen to it for nearly two hours straight going to work and another two hours going home and I don’t notice any heat coming from the phone or my battery draining by that much. The only time I ever noticed any heat was when I was first set it up a few days ago. I would check to see if there’s something running in the background that could be possibly contributing to the battery drain? Also, maybe check when you go to your music app that all the songs that you are listing to don’t have the cloud symbol next to them as that would indicate that it’s not downloaded to the phone which could possibly mean you’re streaming it off the cloud.

Everyday I ride my bike using the MapMyRide App while simultaneously listening to my downloaded music on the Music App. I do this for about an hour and a half and the phone doesn't get warm and this is in Florida.

Might have a faulty phone.

Wouldn't hurt to have apple take a look at it.

As soon as the stores open I will take it in. Checking on the battery no surprises. It says 98% of battery use was for iTunes. Which makes sense since I have been going for a long walk every day listening to music. All the music being listened to was download from old CD's not streaming. In all the years since the iPhone came out, this the only time I ever done that. I will have it looked at because my old 2012 MBP does the same thing. It gets hot and the battery drops really fast but it's almost 9 years old. Going back to using the old shuffle.

I noticed this comment didn't get any feedback, but that often times is the case. For example, my phone gets way hotter driving home from work connected to CarPlay simply because the sun shinning through.

This has happened to me on a couple of different occasions. I use my old phone for music and workout tracking app. All music is downloaded, not streamed. Sometimes Music will hammer the battery for no apparent reason (and yes I've ruled out playlist updates causing this). SIM is permanently pulled from the phone and wireless turned off as well.

Typically forcing the app closed and soft resetting the phone resolve it.

I will try this. I rarely force an app to close

iTunes on iOS is just the iTunes Store. Music playback would be via the music app.
