In a way, an iPad Pro is just a big iPhone with pencil support. So can an iPhone 11 Max Pro replace a 12.9 iPad Pro if the pencil is not needed?

Definitively no!! An iPad you used to use in a different way. 11 Max Pro for social networks and some videos in a bus or subway and iPad to watch films at home for example, and play some games

Not a chance, I still have my old iPad Air 2 for the stuff that I want to do on a bigger screen like watch series or edit/sign documents more effectively. You can do all that on an iPhone but it’s so much better to do on the larger display of an iPad.
