iPhone 11 Pro Max iPhone 11 Pro max back up WITHOUT using iTunes or iCloud

I have an issue with using iTunes to back up my iPhone 11 Pro Max as my drive on my MacBook Pro is too small as I have too many photos on my iPhone which will exceed the space on my drive. I do have an external SSD drive though, is it possible to use iTunes to back up on the external SSD? I am running MacOS High Sierra.

One other question, can one get direct access to the photos and Voice memo files of the iTunes back up?

Otherwise I was thinking of using Image Capture application to copy the photos this way. But how does one copy the Voice memo files? (without having to use a paid for application like iMazing, if possible)

That's not at all obvious from the content of your post which says that your problem with itunes is space (which this fixes) and asks questions about accessing content from the itunes backup. Good luck to you then.

What's wrong with using iTunes? If you're dead set against using iTunes you can pay for a program that's more sophisticated - "iMazing 2"
