I was in Florida on vacation. Went to a beach and started to take a wide angle photo. The screen just went black. I then could only use slo-mo to take ANY photo.
Decided to reboot iPhone, it didnt reboot just ended up have a rotating thinggy on the screen for 45 minutes.
Rebooted again still nothing.
2 hours later the home screen finally came up.

Took the iphone to the Apple store in Deer park Illinois arriving at 8pm. The initial rep did some testing and found that they camera had failed. Then the surprise...we will replace it, that is the camera only. What!! it is 3 weeks old and had a major failure. I would like to have the phone replaced please. I do have Apple care.
No we wont do that we will do a component replacement only. Ok how long will that take 1-2 hours. It is now 8.30pm and you close at 9 how does that work. You will have to come back tomorrow. I said not good enough. I really want the iPhone replaced please. No we wont do that.

What is going on here. I siad that I was concerned that once there was one failure that other compoenents could now also fail. The rep said not, so the camera is not connected to anything else. So I then pointed out that it took up to 2 hours to reactivate into an os, and you are telling me that there is no connection between the two??????

I then asked to speak with the manger and explained everything that had happened up to this point in time. She was very relaxed and fully understood my frustration and agreed that the iPhone should be replaced which it was and I left the store within 15 minutes.

this seems to be a whole new side of Apple as far as customer service is concerned ie component replacement only, I could understand if the iPhone was months / years old but to be 3 weeks old and fail is an issue.

I asked one rep how many camers he had seen fail in the new iPhone and he said that this was the first he had seen. The the next more senior rep when asked the same question said that he saw this everyday.Hmmmmmm that doesnt sound correct otherwise there would be compliants all over the nternet and there are not.

Even though I received a replacement iPhone to go through this sort of a hassle is a big change for Apple.
