Hi everyone!

I just bought my IP 11 Pro Max yesterday and upon close inspection, I noticed that my screen has somewhat color uniformity issue. FYI, I'm a photographer and photo editor and I'm super sensitive when it comes to color inconsistency. I also noticed this issue with my iPad Pro 2018 / Oled TV, etc.. etc...

Well, back to the issue, I noticed that on the bottom side of the screen, when pure white is displayed, the white seems to be tainted with some pink-ish tint. I tried to use a proper camera/lens to capture the picture and here it is below.

I know, in the picture, it doesnt look so bad, but in real life (I swear) the color cast looks more prominent.

When I used a color sampler tool in PS to sample color value, for the points 3 and 4, I found that:
Point 3 - Color shifted toward blue channel slightly (+2)
Point 4 - Color seemed to be uniform (219 across the board)

In summary, the variation between R/G/B Value from 6 sample points doesnt seem to be that bad, that is to say, the variation is within +/- 2.

However, I still dont know why in real life/in person, the bottom of the screen looks more pink?

FYI, I used a good camera with controlled white balance and a very good quality lens to capture the picture, so I'm quite sure it's not how I took the picture that hides this issue.

So from the above, I'd like to ask you guys as follows:
1. What do you think about the quality of this screen, given the above information and picture.
2. Have you guys noticed any color cast/ color tint/ color uniformity issue with your IP 11 screens (all models). I dont ask you guys to take a photo and pick color sample like I did, but just would like to hear your thought from the real use.

Now, I'm considering whether I should RMA it. Apart from this observation, the phone seems to function perfectly and my fear is, the new one may be worse... I have to send this one to Apple to get the replacement so I cant compare the two and pick the best... Plus the 256GB model retails at approx 1,530 USD here in Thailand, so I dont wanna sink another 1.5K USD just to see which one is the best and return the other one.

Thanks for your input.
Cheers!

Just keep it and get Applecare plus and replace it later if it bothers you. You would just be rolling the dice for a better screen if you swap it and the odds are low that you would get one any better.

Thanks for your reply. However, I'm not sure whether AppleCare+ would be the answer. I mean, if my understanding is correct, before I would be allowed to replace the phone (within AC+ period), I also have to prove to Apple that my screen has a problem. Not sure whether I can convince them to see what I see, as the problem can be difficult to notice.

Again, like you said, requesting for a replacement would be rolling the dice. I think the best way might be to sink another 1.5K for another unit (well just temporarily until Apple returns my cash for the returned unit), and compare them both, then keep the better one... rinse & repeat until I can find one I like... it doesnt take more than 1 minute to spot this issue when you know what you are looking for.

The issue is easier to spot with 50% grey. I took a picture with 50% grey and increased the contrast so that it's easier to see the issue.

The top of the screen is fine in real life, but for the bottom, I can see that pink-ish tint everytime with white background e.g. in safari / settings/ etc.

I did further search and found this thread for the X. It seems this issue is quite common with OLED?

Does anyone experience this with the IP11?

Yeah, with True Tone and night shift on and brightness on lowest and looking at that test grey screen or just using dark mode, I see a faint purple tint in the right corner, but other than that it’s not visible. The screen is still amazing and if you don’t look for the uniformity issues (which probably all oled screens have to some degree) it’s not bothersome, to me at least
