iPhone 11 Pro iPhone 11 Pro Max ultra wide ange camera weird behavior

Is the sudden switch of quality between the cameras normal? They both have the same number of megapixels, I think it shouldn’t be like this...
Normal:

Ultra-wide:

I think you need to post a better shot of the entire room showing other items to compare quality and focus...furniture, blankets, etc.

I can’t really, I’m not home anymore, but I’ve got better shots. The difference in quality on these is pretty obvious imho

Well, Apple support just did a diagnostic on my phone, and one of the sensors is broken. Going to the Apple store this evening. I’ll update with how it goes.

Well, Apple Support did their remote diagnostic thingy on me, and it turned out I had a bad sensor. You should try to write them too.

I mean, sorta/kinda... You can see that they are not the same quality - but it seems intentional? The photos from the ultra wide camera go through quite a bit of processing to reduce distortion. I don't know, maybe I'll check a demo unit at the store later.

Hum, personally I think that mine has waaaay more noise and « grain » if you zoom in

Well, I’m back from Apple store. The employee redid the test and it showed no errors to him. It was weird and he admitted seeing something weird, but it wasn’t enough to do anything. So rip I guess

Physical sensor size on the ultra wide and telephoto is smaller than the wide angle lens. Also the ultra wide is slower than the wide lens so quality isn’t going to be as good as the wide angle lens. BTW, ultra wide is a fixed focus lens so object should be > 1 meter from the camera for it to be in focus (although that’s not the concern here).

You’re taking pictures in a fairly dim environment with a lens that lets in less light and then stretching it nearly 2x. Yes, it’s not going to look as good as the main lens. There’s nothing wrong with your camera.

Never go to the store. Your next step after the diagnostic should have been "advanced replacement"
