That is my worry.I've asked the same question, MCLOCO. Should I buy the sim-free or go with a carrier option? The consensus is that the phone should be unlocked if purchased from Apple at full price (sim-free or carrier). However, I've also read horror stories of phones being locked by carriers, regardless.
If I put a ATT, T mobile or Verizon sim card into my Iphone 11 Pro Sim Free phone will it lock the phone to these networks? I would like the option to go with another network if I am not happy with one of them. Thanks in advance.
These are the anecdotal info I’ve gathered, although not for SIM free iPhone specifically. If I put a ATT, T mobile or Verizon sim card into my Iphone 11 Pro Sim Free phone will it lock the phone to these networks? I think the key is getting the sim-free version. If you get the carrier version, they can play tricks with you. These are the anecdotal info I’ve gathered, although not for SIM free iPhone specifically.
At&t will lock your eSIM, at least on iPads.
Verizon might lock your phone for 60 days, at least for Verizon iPhones, even if you paid it in full.
There are no carrier specific cellular iPads, they’re all basically “sim free”, yet AT&T can still lock the eSIM inside those iPads. So just FYI as YMMV.I think the key is getting the sim-free version. If you get the carrier version, they can play tricks with you.
