This is terrible timing with the iPhone 13 potentially launching next month! My iPhone 11's touchscreen is broken. A 1cm strip along the left side of the screen has been completely unresponsive for a couple of months now, which makes it really tricky to use any "back" button etc. But now the rest of the touch screen is playing up. I get random touches all over the screen (which can be dangerous) and other times its completely unresponsive (the middle of the keyboard doesn't work, the camera shutter wont work). Apple quoted me £180 to fix, which I might have done if the battery wasn't at 85% capacity. Frustrating as of the appeals of getting an iPhone was so I could keep it for a few years.

Now, ideally I want to hold out with it as long as I can, but it seems to be getting worse and worse I've been looking into my options.

iPhone 12: Going from an 11 to a 12 doesnt seem that much of a step up beyond the design and screen.

iPhone 12 Pro: Going up to the 12 pro seems much more appealing- I need 128gb storage anyway. I want the telephoto camera and improved portrait shots from lidar. There is probably something else I'm missing.

1. Is going from an 11 to a 12 Pro worth it?
2. Apple have quoted me "up to" £320 for a trade in on my 11. Do you think that apple would see my touchscreen issues in testing? Cosmetically, the phone is in good shape.
3. I expect that the trade in value for my 11 will drop once the 13 is announced, does anyone know how much this has been historically?
4. Obviously the new iPhones are due soon. We're only going from rumours so far, but it would make sense to wait if I can. Pro motion and other features don't really appeal to me, but an improved camera does. I should wait?

I hope that makes sense, thanks for everyone's help!

From the rumors I don't think 13 will be a big step, at least not from my point of view. It looks like mainly camera upgrade, but I am happy with the camera in my 12 pro and don't like the bigger lenses on predicted prototypes. 120Hz screen is also not something I miss. Speed is already good. A pro in aluminium and/or mini pro would temp me. Always on display too (might be come, since the same display technology used in Apple Watch is rumored).

It is all guessing at this time. Best case would be to use a backup phone till there is solid information about what 13 will bring.

That said 12 pro is not a bad phone if you can get for a good price, just to heavy because of steel in my opinion, but not worse than the 11 you already have.

I’d wait. And yes, I’m sure a broken device has significantly less trade in value as well so keep that in mind moving forward.
