Hi!

I recently swapped my old iPhone 11 Pro to a brand new iPhone 12 (not pro). I've noticed a radical drop in battery life going from the old device to the new. On my iPhone 11 Pro I would usually make it through two days without a charge doing basic things like checking emails, using social media apps, and taking photos. On my new iPhone 12 I don't even get through a day without having to charge the device in the early evening.

Is this normal?

Could it be due to iPhone 12 using 5G? Or is it perhaps iOS related, as I made the swap just as iOS 14.5 came out, and I'm now using iOS 14.5.1?

I've owned every iteration of the iPhone since it came out and I am used to minor changes in battery life between devices, but I've never experienced a drop this big before.

For once, the iPhone 12 does have a smaller battery than the 11, so there's that.

If you don't have 5G coverage in your area, just disable it and stick to 4G/LTE. Another easy way to troubleshoot is to just reboot your phone. There might be a running services or app stuck and draining battery. Reboot and see if the phone performs better.

Thanks! I've done reboots, wiped it clean and reinstalled the iOS clean, all to no avail.

I have 5G coverage in my area and it would be nice to be able to use it, but I'll try disabling it to see if it improves battery life.

Thanks Girlsmouth (something I used to say more in my teenage years) ;)

This would explain it. Best toggle it off.
