Hello, I need some advise. I bought my 12 pro max on launch to replace my XS max. I’ve been having issues with the internet on EE in the UK.
Whilst I’m at work in a factory building I have 2-3 bars of 4g signal and a speed of approx 20mbs down. However the majority of the time it will show the same signal strength but I will have no internet. Outside I get 4 bars and over 100Mbs down. Toggling airplane mode resolves sometime but other times it will start working on its own but drops again a few mins later. It also happened in B&Q today and other places so is rather frustrating.

I have tested the sim (my old sim) in my XS max right next to it and get the same speed with not drop outs. I know there is a thread about connectivity but I’ve not lost service, just internet. I have also done a network reset to no avail.

Right now I don’t know if I should get a new sim (old one works in XS), ask apple for replacement phone or wait to see if software updates help.

What do you guys recommend??
Thanks

I am having this issue here in India but, the source of my problem is the VPN Provider; If I keep it off, then the internet connectivity works smoothly all day along.

Also, once I upgraded, I actually went eSIM and removed physical sim from the phone. If you prefer, you can try this.

So just a general misunderstanding here. The signal strength you see on the device is not directly related to data connectivity. Your phone maybe catching signal but there’s no data packet being passed.

Maybe check with EE. Some people have had their connectivity issues resolved with a new SIM card since iPhone 12 supports 5G.

Excellent point. Outside of launching new networks replacing the SIM card is mostly ineffective when troubleshooting intermittent network connection issues.

Qualcomm modem must be Garbage smh . Apple should of stayed with intel no problems with the 11 series

Could easily be just the 5G implementation on the carrier’s side. Apple will know best why they switch component manufacturers.

Yeah I’m aware that just because the indicators show a signal does not mean I will receive data... however same signal indicators show on my XS max yet I do have uninterrupted data albeit a little slow. Hence being skeptical it was SIM card as it works on XS but intermittent on 12.
However I have ordered a e-sim and see if that makes much difference just to rule it out.

I’ve read that the Qualcomm modem is better than intel but for me so far it’s not looking like it. But it also could be a software bug...

I’ve also done another reset and restore whilst I wait for the e-sim.
im out of my returns window now and don’t feel like I want to play the screen lottery unless I have to so also waiting for 14.3 just in case that fixes it too 🤞🏻

I think 14.3 is coming with a modem update. Wish you good luck.

I thought we were out of the return window too. But guess what, we are not! They extended the return/exchange date to Jan 12th or something like that cause of holidays! So if you bought an iPhone 12 Pro Max on launch day you are still good for at least another month!

Still no update to fix. I went to an apple store before Xmas and they was going to replace it but it meant I had to send it off and wait a week for the replacement. I asked to delay it until the new year but now in lockdown again. Tried calling apple only to be told she couldn’t do it over the phone and gave me a link to go to. Turns out this was an order tracking page 🤦🏻
