Hey gang,

Is anybody planning on heading to the Apple store on Friday to grab a phone? If so, wondering if stores will have a different process in place to grab a phone or if it’s going to be the same as always(line starts overnight and stores open at 8am).

No. I ordered mine for delivery. Not worth the risk. I don't know how Apple will plan on doing this. Apple store near me is temp. closed for the 3rd time, which is why I choose for home delivery instead.

I don't think there's a line. I had to get mine for pickup because delivery dates were in November. I had to choose a time slot to go pick it up. I'm sure there will be a line for that, but there's usually a line at my apple store anyway, due to COVID.

I reserved mine in store and have a time slot.. no need to camp out or anything silly like that since I have one set aside for me. 1pm for me!

They’re only letting in a few people in at a time to keep everyone as spread out as possible. There will probably be a line but that line will also be spaced out. And people had to choose time slots to pick up. They can’t just go whenever they please.

Since every pick up order has a time slot, I am guessing there is no need to schedule an appointment any more?

Well on normal days, you actually do want to set up an appointment "Show with a Specialist" even for shopping for a accessories, or other things, they will want to make sure you have an appointment. They won't let you inside the store without one.

There are no overnight lines anymore as when you order for pickup, you have a dedicated time slot.

When I ordered my AW6, they handed me a bag with the watch in it and said 'thanks.' That will NOT work for a phone. I have no idea how they're going to make this work.

how would one order for pickup if they don’t have a phone secured? My question was more around lines for people who don’t have a pre order.

The local Apple Store near me is letting pre-order pickup customers come into the store in Friday. I need to return my iPhone 11 Pro, so I called Apple today to confirm that I’ll be able to move the data from my iPhone 11 Pro to my new iPhone 12 Pro at the store. Apple confirmed yes. I live in Brooklyn, so the Downtown Brooklyn location is letting people come on with appointments and pickup time slots. They aren’t at 100% capacity though. I would recommend making an appointment with a Specialist if you haven’t pre-ordered already.

You can't order for pickup if there isn't a phone available. They keep some set aside for walk-ins, but pre-orders are the priority.

That is basically what happened when we bought the XR. Walked in, showed ID, walked out with the phone in 2 minutes. We set it up on our own and returned the old phone for credit via mail.

I have an appointment. I fully plan to get my grubby mitts in a 12 to make sure I made the right choice of the pro, and I will look at cases for my wife.

Last week I picked up an iPhone SE 2020 at my local Apple store. I had to wait outside, under the tent, have my temperature checked, by a nice lady as another nice lady went to get the iPhone. There was two very muscular guards also there making sure no one made a break for the door. The only people I saw in the store were employees. I asked if I could go in to look for a case I was wanting for the phone and the lady who got my phone whipped out her phone and searched for what they had and then showed them to me. I decided I really did not want a case from them that bad. I picked up one at Best Buy - they let me actually showed me what they had and select one.

I do have an appointment to pick up my 12 Pro at the store. I have an appointment for Oct 25th (I am out of town until then). And I expect they will bring it to me outside.

I picked up my AW6 from an Apple store last month. they followed the covid guidelines to T. They had single entrance where a guy would read your forehead temperature through an infrared thermometer, then if you had no fever they would let you go to the other end which is a normal routine line. then you wait for being called to the store and then rest is as usual. All are masked up and remain 6 ft apart. This was in Seattle, WA.
