iPhone 12 Mini Call Issue

My wife’s iPhone 12 Mini periodically experienced call issues. Her phone speaker will randomly cut out what the other person is saying now and then. Often the other person can still hear her. We are on a Verizon plan in a big city with good cell coverage. This has happened on both regular calls and FaceTime Audio calls. Has this happened to anybody else? Is there a way to fix this? Her phone has the latest update and was turned off and on today.

I was speaking to Apple support today about similar call issues on my 12 mini and they said it was a software issue and should be sorted out with the latest updates. I’m returning mine anyway.
