Hey guys. I wanted to share with you my story and see if anyone else had similar experiences.
So on the 1st of Jan I returned my 256GB iPhone 12 Pro to Amazon because I realized I could use the extra space, and went for the 512GB.
When it came, I opened the box and realized the phone had a big ass scratch (two actually) along the back. (will try to add photos).
Needless to say I immediately called Amazon, which set up a replacement.
Fast forward two days (without a phone since I had already returned the first 512 GB one), I get another 512GB which STILL HAS A SCRATCH on the back. It was actually a small dot, but it seemed like someone tried to rub it off and ended up ruining the back glass frosting in the surrounding area. You could clearly see the damage while tilting the phone under light.
So I called Amazon AGAIN and explained the issue. The 512GB iPhone is €1539 in my country, that's a one month salary, I'm just saying that this is unacceptable for such an expensive item and I think I am in the right by expecting a mint condition phone. Especially the front/back glasses where the damages can be really easy to notice.
My THIRD 512GB phone is on the way and it will be here on saturday, this shipment will take longer than usual (3 days compared to 24 hours) so my guess is that Amazon chose to ship it from another warehouse where they may have a different batch of phones (???).
The two damaged iPhones had "V" as the 5th digit in their serial which means week 50 of manufacturing, if that's of any help.
I would like to know if anyone had the same issue, or if you have any idea of what could possibly be the reason of this. I doubt the phones were used, the box was perfectly sealed, the accessories were untouched, and they both had 61 days left to buy AppleCare+ which is what happens to brand new phones. UNLESS Apple could somehow reset this?
The only other thing I've notcied was a slight wrinkle on one of the screen protectors, this may suggest that it was reapplied, but other than that it was perfectly aligned and didn't really have any bubbles or dust on the screen, so I may be wrong on this one.
Thanks for reading! I will update my post with a few pictures as soon as possible.
EDIT:
This was the first one. It was REALLY hard to have the damage show on camera, I SWEAR it was a big ass scratch, you couldn't feel it at touch but it was there. I also added a short video where the scratches are really obvious
.
