Hi!

Since the 12 Pro max is bigger than the 11 Pro max will apps need to be optimized for it?

How will the resolution be? Scaling?

Thanks!

Apps will need to be rebuilt using Xcode 12.1 in order to properly display the new iPhone screen sizes. Apps that aren't rebuilt will be a zoomed up version of the 11 Pro Max screen. Same for the 12/12 Pro.

This was my fear. How long does it takes these apps to be compliant?

Apple hasn't released the 12.1 update yet, but once it does, it just depends on the developer. There isn't really much they need to do other than open the project, run the app to make sure it works and no adjustments are needed, and rebuild and submit it apple. So a few days to a week for most devs i would imagine. For my apps it will take a few days at most.

Hello Andy,

this topic will not only be relevant for the 12 Pro Max. It IS already a topic for the 12 / 12 Pro.

The Scaling on the 12 Pro is already "wrong". I think it is scaled up from the 11 Pro from its 5,8" to the 12´s 6,1".
I think it is a huge mistake from Apple to upscale the UI from the iPhone 11 Pro to the bigger screen of the iPhone 12 / 12 Pro.
I came from a iPhone XR and immediately realized the far bigger UIs in the iOS Apps.
I attached some examples how show the huge difference.
We need to push this. I hope Apple will fix this issue. All new iPhone owners will be "robbed" of there bigger display.
This also effects 3 party Apps. But some Apps are already optimized for the iPhone 12 / 12 Pro. See Screenshots from the Apps.

For reference. The iPhone settings are exactly the same in terms of zoom, or displaying bigger text.

Greetings
Max

Sadly I don't think Apple's going to change this. The 12's use the same 3x scale factor as the other OLED iPhones. So given the new resolution you're getting a scale that's between the 11 Pro and XR (390pt versus 375pt and 414pt). A lot of apps aren't optimized for the new scale yet so they're still rendering at 375pt, but either way, it' a downgrade and I'm very close to returning mine over it.

Everything is blown up and less info on the iPhone 12 screen compared tot the iPhone 11 with the same settings

Less text in the calender widget etc etc.

Will this be fixed eventually?

Not nice

This is a total mess. When you open the apple homepage the scale is a joke in comparison to my old iPhone XR.
Even the apple homage is sharper on the iPhone XR with a lower screen resolution. The apple homepage is scaled up on the iPhone 12 Pro! This is ridiculous.
