Dear Community,

I have seen that there are numerous threads, here, as well as in other forums, on this and on similar topics, but I am looking for some experiences from fellow users, so I hope that it's okay I post it.

I just want to hear from other iPhone 12 Pro Max users about their battery drain on idle. Since I am working from home and I am mostly using my work cell, my 12 Pro Max mostly sits there unused, it just receives the occasional text from 2FA on my accounts. In roughly 1.5 days, the battery drained from 100% to 80% (finished charging on Thursday, 5pm, on Saturday around midday, it was at 80%). Compared to previous iPhones I owned, this seems "fast" to me.

What are your experiences with battery drain on the iPhone 12 Pro Max? Is my described battery drain regular or is it something I should be worried about?

Thanks for your help!

i cant say for 1.5 days but with 100% at 22.00 with Airplane Mode ON and Wifi ON, in the morning 09.00 it will still have 98%-100%. use Cellular Data then its gonna drain like crazy because reception inside my house is very very bad.

I just posted this in a new thread. 15-20% usual drain in one day for me.
But 100% drain overnight - idle, nothing running in the background, no...that's not normal! I'm stumped, this is the first time this has happened.

Oh wow, that's strange. Do you have any idea how that happened?

It's still baffling and so far as of 8:15pm, I can't recreate this crazy drain! I left the phone off the charger all day, it's a normal drain, nothing unusual.

One crazy idea this morning as I was trying to think what the heck happened - when I had the phone off the charger last night, I placed it on my wallet and went to sleep. Anyway I bought one of those Tile bluetooth finders (the size of a credit card) a few weeks ago, stuck it in the wallet and that is always on.

By placing the phone on top of the wallet, with just a thin piece of leather separating this Tile BT finder and the phone..did this have some crazy effect? That is the only thing I can think of right now, but clearly I honestly have no idea.

I know, it's sounds flat out bizarre, borderline nuts...I get it (🙄😳) And I also can't find anything online about Tile draining phone batteries when they are close together.

But I'll be trying this again overnight and see what happens. I'm really hoping this was some one time crazy fluke.

It really is. The phone was fine overnight off the charger, been ok all day today. I have absolutely no idea what happened.
If it does not happen again, you might file it as a "one-time occurence" and not worry about it anymore, but I know from my own experience that this is easier said than done.

So far, it hasn't happened again. I've had it off the charger each night since this happened. But...LOL, yep...it's in the back of my mind, I tend to over-obsess with these things. 😒

** Edit - Looking at the settings - the past 10 days at the APP % USE, - I always forget that. Now I wonder if when I put the phone down with the screen down that I somehow triggered the camera. That would make more sense with the drain...and I hope that's exactly what I did. Ugh, if so ...again I feel better, but I also feel a bit stupid.

--But the hour by hour usage from Tues. morning doesn't show anything open, no apps used.

Ok, I'll stop obsessing...for now.

I know the feeling and I also tend to over-obsess, Exhibit A: my creation of this thread. ;)

I am not sure that I got the rest of your message right. Did the timeframe with the camera usage correspond to the strange drain? And the time where you can't see the camera usage hasn't shown that much drain?

Yeah, I really do obsess over it, it's kinda stupid I know. But I know we're not the only ones. :)

No, after again looking at the time frame it still doesn't make sense. The camera was used 3 minutes on Tues., so I suppose I didn't leave it on after all. Yet "Screen On for 4hr 26m, Screen off" for 33 min?" These times do not make sense for the hours between 1am to 7:30am Tues.

And my battery health has dropped to 98% (Another 1% down in 10-11 days, only 29 charge cycles). Something just doesn't feel right. I know these batteries degrade, it just feels like it's degrading fast. Especially when the battery health of my old Xs Max was 96% after 2 years, 2 months when I traded that in.

I do have an appt. at Apple today, now I know they probably won't do anything..not asking for a new battery, maybe they can run some kind of diagnostic test to see if this thing is goofy or they can see what really caused the 100% drop last week?? Since then, I've left it off the charger overnight...I'll have a 3-5% drain or I'll have 0% drain like Sat into Sun.

*I have love/hate with the "Battery Health" feature, seeing it drop doesnt help with my severe "Battery OCD" 😆

Update -
---

After taking it to the Apple Store, they did run a diagnostic check.

The 100% drain last Monday was from the Camera AUDIO running in the background, but the Camera app itself was NOT on. So...um, what the- !? 😮 Well, that's a first!

Other than that insanely bizarre occurrence which "cannot be explained, except possible software issue - everything appears normal."

A full erase and start from scratch was recommended. Which I will be doing.

But if the battery health continues to drop, call Apple Care/Support. Love the Apple store, but everything is kinda rushed, the appointments, long line out the door since this insipid Covid. I get it..Ah well.

Sorry to hear that this was not solved that easily. If the issue persists after you did a full reset and you're still under Apple Care, you could probably get a replacement, right? At least to help you put your mind at ease. And trust me, I know how you feel and I would feel exactly the same way.

Yeah, the Apple rep did mention that also, which did put my mind at ease.
Since the total reset - then updating to 14.4.1...then yet another reset, the phone seems to be ok. No crazy issues. (knock on wood....fingers crossed) :)

I personally can't figure it out, not much online about it except the usual "solutions" (Turn off notifications, Background App refresh, Location on apps, other things, Reduce White Point..that was new to me and I tried that) So far, no improvements.

Some are seeing erratic battery drain, other are not. Mine was fine from late Nov, started seeing some battery drain in late Feb. - Erratic, Maybe 12-15% after a full day w/ minimal use. Or today with 36%..again, minimal use. Drain overnight can be 0% or 9% like a few nights ago.

Love the phone...but the battery, this health drain on this 12PM now at 94% is a bit deflating. 🤷🏻‍♂️

IF IOS 14.5 (whenever that comes out) does address battery health, readings on the 12's, like it was reported it will do on the 11's, I'll be happy. But there is no word on this "fix" for the other models.
