Hi Guys,

Ive got a strange issue on my Pro Max in that when on 5G I can do a speed test on the device and get 900+ meg however when I hotspot to any other device including M1 MacBook Air I'm only getting around 30 - 50meg, ive confirmed with the carrier they're not restricting it.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

I suspect that's the current maximum speed of hot spot networking. Surprise!
Its connecting via 802.11ax (WiFi 6) and it was part of the iPhone 12 lineup that they've enabled 5Ghz Hotspotting so you'd think they'd have tested it with 5G to check speeds....

I've seen some hotspot tests on YouTube go over 180mbps. I don't think you'll get the full 900mbps, but you should get more than 30-50mbps.

Make sure your test is also displaying the correct units. Sometimes test apps default to MegaBytes per second, not MegaBits per second.

Yeh I've checked its on MegaBits rather than MegaBytes, I've also checked and it does connect on 802.11ax WiFi 6 so there shouldn't be a bottleneck there, very strange.

Very late response - I had a very similar issue. Unchecking "Maximise compatibility" on the Personal Hotspot settings page of iOS fixed it.
