I was curious to see how my new iPhone 12 Pro stacked up against my old iPhone 11 Pro in terms of WiFi 802.11ac performance.

I set up a local LibreSpeed test server on the same subnet as my phones, and cabled it to my Negear Orbi RBS50 access point that both phones are connected to. According to the access point, both phones negotiated a link rate of 866 Mbps.

I did three tests on each phone using Safari on iOS 14.1, in the exact same spot, 4 ft away from the access point and then averaged the results. Probably no surprise here, but there wasn't much difference between them:

My iPhone 11 Pro averaged 573 Mbps download and 124 Mbps upload.

My iPhone 12 Pro averaged 589 Mbps download and 122 Mbps upload.

Generally speaking, the iPhone 12 Pro reported about 1 ms lower latency compared to the 11 Pro. 3ms vs 4ms.

Again, no real surprises. The phones' performance should probably be considered virtually identical in my environment. Just thought I'd post my results in case anyone else was curious.

By way of comparison, on my MacBook Pro 2018 connected to the same access point, right next to the phones on my desk averaged 621 Mbps download with uploads in the neighborhood of 500 Mbps.
