So the only reason I chose the iPhone XS at the time over the XR was due to the pathetic resolution of the XR which was only 828p, I read that the new iPhone 12 has a 1080p display is that true? If so I’m tempted to upgrade from my XS.

The XR actually has more sub pixels than the XS.

OLED pixel = 2 subpixels
LCD pixel = 3 subpixels

it’s 1080 pixels upright horizontally, yes. Calling it 1080p isn’t technically accurate since that would be 1920x1080 progressive, which it is not, since the upright vertical resolution is much higher than 1920.

Though I will say that you can’t necessarily really compare it like that. The LCD resolution of 828 upright horizontally was RGB striped, where the greater resolution of the OLEDs use a pentile pattern
