Buddy of mine is offering to sell me his one year old+ iPhone 11 Pro for about $650 CDN. It's in good shape, except for a small scratch on the screen which I can live with. Otherwise, it's clean, but no warranty. Battery Health at 89%

Or I can get an open box iPhone 12 from BestBuy for about $1185 all-in. Naturally a full-year of limited AppleCare comes with it.

It seems like a no-brainer to go with the 11 Pro at almost half the price. I usually keep my phones for 3 years minimum.

Am I'm missing anything and will the resale value in 2-3 years favour the 12 by a much greater margin?

Keep resale value out of the equation.

Which phone meets your current needs the best and is also comfortable on the wallet? That is the phone to go with.

The 11 Pro certainly more than meets my needs at the moment. And spending less is always a good thing.

However, the battery and the lack of warranty is a bit concerning. That why I brought into question value down the road given I'll be hanging on to it for like 3 years minimum.

If battery and warranty are a concern, get the 12.

89% battery and scratched screen would be my answer, No. I had a 11 pro now have a 12.

Battery is a non factor. Costs $69 to replace. I wouldn’t buy a device with no warranty on it. May be half the price now, but it sure won’t be if you have an out of warranty repair.

If your budget is within that range, I would just get a brand new iPhone 11. You still get the same chip as the 11 Pro, but brand new with new battery and warranty.

I don’t know how the cellular companies are where you are located but here in the state’s you could buy it (and use it for a year) and trade it in next year for a free iPhone 13.

If no warranty and battery usage bother you go for the 12. Otherwise the 11 is a very good phone and will last 3 years.

If the iPhone 11 Pro is working flawlessly now, it's not going to just stop. Battery is very cheap to replace.

I would go with the 11 Pro, since I believe it's a better package than the 12 (better size, and a better battery life once you change the battery).

I would not worry about warranty, have you ever needed warranty on an iPhone before? Where I live, no one is buying AppleCare, if you drop it you have insurance.
If you think the 11 pro speaks to you, then I think you should get it, but if you are bothered by some of the things before you have bought it, and you find the 12 more in your liking, then you will always regret not getting the new 12.
