Interested to hear how the 12pm shapes up against the latest range (other than the air, not interested in that).

Thoughts on the 12pm v 17 is it a downgrade effectively?

What is very annoying is the dropping of the plus version as they only option (outside of air) to go big is the super expensive PM. Good marketing I guess. Half tempted to get a 16+.

Also shocked about the lack of premium feel across the whole range. 12PM feels genuinely premium in design, feels like they’ve just gone for super cheap shells
To cut cost this year. Yeah ok it doesn’t matter as yes it with a case but it’s still a total lack of premium feel

The regular 17 is considerably more powerful than the 12PM and is an all round superior phone. It’s a smaller device so you’d have to pick a 17PM if you wish to have a large screen.

I guess it depends on your priorities but I would say iPhone 17 is an upgrade in every way from the 12PM other than the screen size is smaller. There’s one less camera lens but the resolution of 2.5x would be almost the same 12 megapixel anyways, slightly lower resolution but only slightly.

Performance, battery and camera wise you will see a great jump coming from the 12 PM even if you go base 17, the base 17 has proven to be a stellar device all round for many, I can see many people using it for +5 years especially given the the jump in RAM prices etc…in the industry.

The only thing you may miss is the 2.5x telephoto camera the 12 PM has, but if that doesn’t matter to you the base 17 is excellent.

The 16+ is also a great option if you don’t mind missing out on 120Hz ProMotion display that even the base 17 got this year, overall you would be getting great package (battery life included).

I don’t think you can go wrong either model.

Is the 17 a downgrade? No, not at all – it’s objectively better in almost every spec. But if you love the premium heft and design of the 12PM, the jump might feel a bit sideways rather than exciting.

The regular phones finally got 120hz, so outside of the possible exception of the max better camera due to more lenses and the fact it has LIDAR… everything else will be superior.
