Latest rumour, as reported on the main site, is that there will be no 64GB storage option on any model and the base storage will be 128GB with as high as 1TB for Pro models.

Whilst more storage never hurts, I really hope the starting price point for the base storage options (128GB) stays the same as now. This especially matters for the 13 Mini. The 12 Mini with 64GB started at $699/£699 which was overpriced anyway, with most third party retailers now selling the 64GB for well under $600/£600. Third party retailers like Amazon currently selling the 12 Mini with 128GB for £629 in the UK.

The 12 Mini with 128GB, Apple lists at £749 in the UK, so if the cheapest 13 Mini is going to be at that price point, it's just another reason for many on the fence buyers like myself not to upgrade.

I know a lot of people think 128GB should be the base storage option, but there are a lot of users like myself who either store most of their data in the cloud, or just don't take lots of photos/videos which take up storage. I think I've averaged about 15GB of my own data on my device over the last few years.

Thoughts? Will those of you who normally go for 64GB be less likely to switch up now?

128 should definitely be the base storage. 12 Pro had the base storage double without any price increase. So it is quite possible that this year 13 non Pro could get an increase in storage capacity without an increase in price.

But there are some rumours of price hike across the board. So we don't know for sure. Will have to wait and see. Hopefully there is no price hike.

I get it in Pro models but I think it's overkill for standard iPhones, especially if they'll raise prices.

I think 128 GB on base model is a good thing for everybody. I also hope that the price stays the same, but it’s hard to isolate only one new feature from the global price of the iPhone 13. If it increase, would it be because of the manufacture cost of the A15? The 128 base storage? The processor shortage? Pure Apple profits? Probably a mix of all that, and it would be unfair to attribute solely a price increase to the storage options

I think it makes sense to have 128GB base for the regular models. If they're not gonna add cool features like ProMotion, Lidar or telephoto, the least they could do is bump up the specs of the non-pro line. So I think, storage and RAM might be bumped to be on par with the pro models.

Great decision if true. 128GBs is more than enough for the majority of smartphone users.

Hopefully Apple don’t offset the base storage increase with a price increase.

Thoughts? It’s about time. Even iPhones had 256GB 4+ years ago.. we keep being sold iPhones with the most incremental of updates, the LEAST they can do imho is update the storage to justify the same (if not higher) prices they charge each year.
for example my iPhone 12 Pro 256GB was $1869AUD.. shouldn’t the same storage the following year be same or less to buy?! That’s my POV anyway keeping in mind we use more data through increase resolution images all the time the tech has to keep up as a package just like my 3GS had 32gb from memory

I'm the type of person who chooses the middle storage option, so I got the 32GB 5, 64GB 6s Plus and 128GB XR. By this rationale, I'll be getting 256GB on my next phone most likely. I guess this is how they get us to keep increasing our storage choices.

In all honesty, I don't quite use 64GB of my storage, but if I had a 64GB capacity, it would feel crowded, and in my mind, the base storage is for people who barely use their phone. I'm by no means a power user, but I like to have lots of apps, including some games. Plus, it's good to have at least 10-20% free space, so you don't run into performance issues.

My iPad Air is 256GB because they don't offer 128GB as an option. Apple is the king of the up-sale. The real question is whether or not the basic 9th gen iPad will start with a base of 64GB this year, or will Apple stick to 32GB for that model until all it can hold is the OS and a dozen extra apps.

It would be great, unless that means they'll just hike up the base price by $50 of course. Though I wouldn’t be so surprised to see it happen without a price rise. The simple reason is that the iPhone 13 will be a pretty boring upgrade from the iPhone 12 (the few exciting new features all seem to go to the pro models), so giving it a bigger base storage would make sense.

Apple actually did this several times before. The iPhone 7 and 8 were both relatively boring upgrades, and for the 7 the base storage went from 16GB to 32GB, for the iPhone 8 it went from 32GB to 64GB (though that came with a $50 price rise). The iPhone 11 was also a relatively boring upgrade, and that time they cut the price by $50. So I could see them keeping the price but giving it 128GB base storage this time.

This is where we run into speculation about iOS 16 being a huge update that takes up a lot more storage, or like others have said, it's Apple's way of adding another appealing upgrade for the 13, when there is not much we expect from the regular 13 compared to the regular 12.

Better processor, better battery, better camera, better 5G, smaller notch, stronger MagSafe. That's mainly it regarding rumors.

Those are all improvements on an already great phone, but it's never a bad idea to add more surprises. I think we'll get a few more features announced on Tuesday.

My current 11 Pro is 256GB. I think 128GB is about perfect but I couldn’t get it on the 11 Pro. I’m using about 150GB but storing all my photos on my phone which I don’t really need to do.

256 will be my minimum now because I download my Music lossless now.

if I do that, I'll need the 1TB iPhone! :) I converted all of my physical music CDs to Apple Lossless coded(ALC) and as of 2020, they took up a little over 1.2TB. I can't stand compressed music....

I don't think a price hike on the regular models would be justified. It's not getting ProMotion display or anything fancy

Not a fan of using a phone for music playback myself so I have a separate player with expandable memory that reads ALAC and other formats like Octa DSD natively
