I was going to give my son's iPhone 13 to my daughter. About 2 months ago I reset it to factory settings (completely erased it). That seemed to work, it was showing the welcome screen with 'hello...' But now it is totally dead. I took it to Apple, but their efforts to revive it failed (no explanation as to why it would suddenly die). They want like $450 to 'fix' it. Anything else I could try?

Was Apple able to run diagnostics on the device? If they couldn't, it possibly could be a battery issue. I would try to charge it wired and then wirelessly to see if it wakes up. The $450 they charge wouldn't be to fix your phone, it would be for a refurbished replacement..

A) Was the iPhone 13 charged after it suddenly powered off? If it’s critically low on battery, give it at least 15-30 minutes to charge it. Try wired charging first, as MagSafe and wireless charging have slightly lower speeds.
B) Did you visit an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) to have the iPhone checked out? Alternatively, did you contact Apple support first?

I went to an Apple store that ran all kind of diagnostics, but the iPhone did not respond at all. Now I have been trying to charge it for days both wirelessly and wired. But it seems totally dead. Probably nothing to do. Better buy a new phone before tariffs hit.

Did you tell the Apple Genius that checked out the iPhone to do a battery replacement ? Even if the serial number when they run it and the diagnostics didn’t even show up?
