So looking at Apple's site, looks like the Aperture went up which from what I understand lets in less lights? Wouldn't this be s step backwards?

iPhone 12 Pro

Camera

  • Pro 12MP camera system: Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto cameras
  • Ultra Wide: ƒ/2.4 aperture and 120° field of view
  • Wide: ƒ/1.6 aperture
  • Telephoto: ƒ/2.0 aperture

iPhone 13 Pro

Camera

  • Pro 12MP camera system: Telephoto, Wide, and Ultra Wide cameras
  • Telephoto: ƒ/2.8 aperture
  • Wide: ƒ/1.5 aperture
  • Ultra Wide: ƒ/1.8 aperture and 120° field of view

Correct. But only for the telephoto since it was increased to a longer focal length. And, while I haven't done the math myself, it may equate to a similar physically sized iris opening even though the f-stop is smaller.
