I tried doing a search on this but initially I haven't found anything. Basically when using Cinematic Mode the playback footage looks fine (on the phone and on my Mac). I can open the footage in Quicktime and it looks fine. However, once I open it in Final Cut the footage is unrecognizable. It's completely overblown/over Exposed. I have no idea why. All of my footage (shot in cinematic mode) is like this. any suggestions or insights as to why this is happening?

As you can see from the photos, one is a screen capture of the clip in FCP and the other is playback in Quicktime.

Try checking preferences. If I recall correctly, there are some choices regarding RGB values. If I had it installed right now I could check it myself. Where are those pomegranates from? Looks magical!

Have you tried this?

Thank you for the reply. I'll be looking into that. I'm guessing its REC. 709 vs REC. 2020 issue. I'm going to see what I can do. The pomegranates are some that a friend of mine grew. I do editing for his channel and the next video is on pomegranates. They taste amazing!

pretty sure that the cinematic mode videos are shot in HDR. You can apply the “HDR tools” effect from the effects browser, there’s a drop down menu and one of those options will correct your footage.

Yep! That was it. I didn't realize my client shot in HDR. I thought it might be something to do with cinema mode but it wasn't entirely. I was able to fix the footage by changing the color profile to REC. 2020 but do you have an example (pictures or videos) on the effects that you are using to fix this?

There is a easier way to rectify this.
You need the iMovie app on iPhone and you will need to edit the video within it and click options before the export and uncheck HDR Video.

This removes the HDR from the video and colours look normal
