I picked up my new Sierra Blue phone last Friday the 24th and love it. Then on Monday I wanted my work email and Microsoft teams back on my phone. I was on the phone with the IT department to get those items back on the phone. While doing this my phone goes black and has the clocking thing going around. I told the IT this was happening and he said that's good it's installing the needed work profile to have access to work email and teams. So I thought nothing of it. So the next night it was doing it again, it woke me up in the middle of the night. I couldn't shut it down so I just laid it on my night stand and tried to go back to sleep. It just kept going off and on. I finally just got up and it was very hot. I was finally able to get it shut down to cool off. It has done this everyday since at different times of the day. So yesterday I had IT disconnect me from the work profile thinking that would fix it, but last night in the middle of the night it did it again. So that was not the issue. I'm thinking I'm going to have to erase and reset up my iPhone. Is anyone else seeing this? Or does anyone have any ideas as to why this would be happening on a new iPhone?

You can either try to restore the device to see if it's software related or you can bring it to an Appstore to have it diagnosed.. I'd do the restore because that's most likely the first thing Apple will try so you could save them the time and narrow it done to a hardware issue..

Most of the time when on these forums, my 13 PM starts warming up and reduces the brightness to the point where I can hardly see the display. I let it rest and, a couple of minutes later, it’s OK again. This happens when I am outside in the sun.

Still happening after a erase and reset. At 2 am this morning it woke us up again. This video is from a few days ago in my car driving home. It lasted the whole time till I got home, had my husband record what was happening, and I was finally was able to shut it down.

Extreme dimming when in the sun or hot is unacceptable but “normal” behavior. They all do it.
Not being able to turn off the phone is a defect.

Return it.

I have a genius appt right after work today. We will see what they do about it. It's so random, you don't know when it's going to happen at all.

My phone was replaced today at the Apple store. Hoping it's not something in my apps that caused the issue as I'm restoring from a backup.

So my iPhone saga ends today with me having to reset my phone as a new phone and reload all my apps. And today my phone now no longer goes off and on as shown in the video, it has my work email and teams on it and is working as expected. So in the end (which I already knew) it was my works profile that somehow broke my phone. It's great now!
