Had this phone since it was released and no issues like this. My iPhone sits on my night stand (not charging) and when I get up in the morning I plug it in to charge in my home office. This morning, I noticed the battery was at 99% when I plugged in. I checked the battery health screen and noticed the battery charge chart shows it was at 99% since yesterday around 7PM (it was charging at that time).

Is there a way to un-stick the battery so it shows the correct value?

I did restart the phone yesterday because my Messages app would only show a white screen, despite force-quitting it multiple times. Restarting the phone fixed the Messages app. I have restarted my phone before and have not had a battery status issue.

EDIT: just noticed I'm not on the latest iOS. Will update and report back.

EDIT2: Updated to 16.1.1 and battery indicator is no longer stuck, but I'm thinking it is not accurate because it is dropping from the fake 99% instead of what the battery really should be (somewhere in the 60's or 70%) since it was not charging overnight.

Ideas? Thanks.

Often a new install of iOS takes a while to figure out battery level.
You could force it to learn where 100% and 0% is by fully charging it then allowing it to discharge to shut off… then fully charging it back to 100%
Doing that will show the charging software where the top and bottom is.
That’s kind of hard on the battery so only do it rarely
