I’ve had two separate instances where the camera app freezes when recording video. I had to force quit the app, and the video stopped at the moment the camera froze. Anyone else experienced this?

14 Pro Max iOS 16.0.2. Haven’t experienced the camera freezing.

Yeah me too. I still having the same issue on my 14 pro max running 16.0.2. It happens while I recording on live concert. Do you guys fixed that issue or still having?

Having the same issue w the iPhone 14 pro/ios 16.0.2…especially when zooming. Was at a baseball game and concert this weekend and happened constantly in video mode. Had to repeatedly close the app.

It’s not overheating is it?
Yeah It was happened to me when I recording live concert in two days a row. And Friday I went to apple store and they aggreed to exchange with new device. But the thing is they don’t have a stocks at any apple store and don’t have any idea exactly which days they will receive the stocks. Try to exchange with new device. They can’t fix that issue.

i did get an exchange for a new one and it still happened the next concert i went to

This issue has not been fixed in the latest update. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max with iOS 16.1. I was at a Smashing Pumpkins concert last night and twice had the camera app freeze on me while filming video. It also froze on me last weekend at another concert. The image on the screen will freeze and filming stops even though the recording timer is still running and the red record icon indicates it's still recording. If I wait several seconds, the image on the screen will un-freeeze and live preview returns. Then I can hit record start filming again. I was shooting at 1080p 60fps, not 4K. So the camera was not overheating. I haven't had the camera freeze up on me filming in normal lighting conditions, only during concerts.

I can confirm the same issue while recording live concerts. It was happening on my 13 pro max. Now on my 14 pro max too. I replicated the issues on a 14 pro as well. The issues appears to be wide spread.

The issues seems to be related to the telephoto lens. If I stay below 2x zoom (1.9 or less and never having even temporarily zoomed into 2x or higher range), I seem to be able to record non stop with no crashes.

If you experiment and use your finger to cover each lense, you'll see that the telephoto lens continues to be used even when in less than 2x after having previously going into 2x mode. This will cause the crash after a while. I also think that if you cover the main lens, it will revert to the telephoto lens even when you've only been at less than 2x.

The issue appears to be caused by the telephoto lens. If you stay away from that lens, you're good.

For clarification of specifically what the issue is and as others have mentioned, the video will freeze but the timer will keep ticking for several seconds. It will then fade out and come back, but the recording has now stopped. I'm shooting 1080hd 60fps.

This is very frustrating and I'll be going to apple with this replicatable issue that's been happening for a few years now.
