iPhone 14 Pro Max iPhone 14 pro max space black vs deep purple - opinions 1 month in?

So, it’s been just over a month since the iPhone 14 pro and pro Max was released. I purchased my iPhone 14PM 1TB space black on release date and I’ve been very happy.
Today I got an offer from a friend, who was regretting buying his iPhone 14PM 512gb deep purple. He wanted to switch phones with me (and pay me some, as mine is 1TB).
Now, I haven’t really looked too closely at the deep purple color. But, what do you think? Some times it looks like it’s got some “disco vibes”, while other times I think it looks boring.
I know that colors and taste are quite personal, but do you think I will regret the switch?
I mostly use my phone without a case, but for the times I have to wear a case, how easy is it to find a good case for the purple phone?
Since I already own a 14PM, I have some cases already,, the original Apple cases being Midnight (leather and silicone), Umber leather, Red silicone, Storm blue silicone and the MagSafe clear case.
How will these fit with a purple phone?
Any thoughts?

Meh. I bought a Deep Purple color, tried to like it, ended up returning it the next day. I got both Space Black and Deep Purple on launch day and the DP immediately went back.

Currently have Space Black. To each their own.

I’ve only seen the deep purple at Best Buy’s, and my friend who wants to swap phones l doesn’t live near me, so I can’t just borrow it and test it out for myself.
Seeing the display phones in stores is the closest I’m gonna get.
That’s why I wanted some opinions from real life users, who have used the phones in different lightings, etc.
From what I’ve seen in the stores, I can’t really make up my mind if I like it or not.
And surprisingly, many reviews on YouTube and posters in forums, such as this, don’t seem to be super excited about it… quite contrary from the Pacific Blue, Sierra Blue, and the green “special colors”, which seem to have gotten quite a lot of praise.

Deep purple looks amazing, but it gets boring over time. Plus the fact that it’s really hard to pick a case that would suit the color. My biggest regret is that I picked this color over silver or space black. Just stick with the space black, rather than regretting your choice later on. 😉

My daughter has space black. I have deep purple. I like them both but prefer deep purple. Still, I don’t know that I’d trade a phone with friends. Too much opportunity for conflict to come up and strain the relationship.

They should just put a black case on it. If they get a Later Case that even covers up the camera bump pretty thoroughly.

In most light, my phone looks black anyway. I see the purple color mainly in daylight. Just a casual glance even in daylight won’t let me easily distinguish purple camera bump from the black one.

I can’t imagine ever getting tired of this color. I wasn’t as attached to Sierra Blue but I will miss this phone when I trade it back to Apple someday. My husband seems to like his purple iPhone. But he does have it in a case and doesn’t see the color that often.

Yeah, the deep purple screams “the latest and greatest”, and the color looks “fun” under the bright lights in the store, but sometimes things can look different when you get home in more normal lighting. And being hard to pair with cases (when needed) is one of my main concerns about swapping phones. So, maybe I should just stick with my black phone. Still, the “new color” always intrigues me… first world problems, I know, so don’t hate on me. Just wanted your guys opinions on these two colors.

I have the deep purple and love it. What I don’t love is the idea of your trading a phone. If your phone is working well and you’ve had few issues what’s to say the phone you get back will be the same? I see lots of people on this forum complain about many issues with their new 14’s that are not happening with everyone.

You purchased 1TB for a reason. Are you willing to now just have half?

And lastly how has he kept his phone? Has it been scratched, dinged or dropped? The only thing you know is how you’ve kept yours.

On balance for me color is an important factor when purchasing but much less important over time. Honestly how much time do you look at the back of your phone? And if you keep it in a case that’s not clear then you basically never see the color you purchased.

I have had the Deep Purple since launch day, and I still love it: it looks great. I’ve looked at Space Black a number of times at the Apple Store. The other colors, especially Space Black, are boring to me.

I’d rather keep the 1TB phone just for the space. I couldn’t care less about colours though as I use cases so it makes little difference to me. Both black and deep purple look good. I would go for deep purple myself if I were to purchase a 14 Pro as all my other phones, minus my gold SE, are black.

Yeah, as someone said up here, there was a reason why I bought this phone. The 1TB storage (because I take a bunch of pictures and videos, have several large apps, like to download media content etc), and the black because it goes well with all my other Apple products - like the iPad, AirPods Max and the MacBook Pro. It also goes great with my other headphones, like the Sony 1000XM5 and the Sennheiser Momentum 4.
So, I really wasn’t thinking about switching - but when given an opportunity to change to the newest color, the Apple nerd in me couldn’t help but at least consider it.
But, after reading your views, I doubt that I’ll swap phones now.. 😎

Make sure you can live with the deep purple as a friend of mine waited too long and now can’t return hers. I bought the space black 1TB and am very happy.

I personally like both finishes, but I wouldn't do the switch based upon the iPhone storage space discrepancy.

Your friend can pay you money for the storage difference, but you cannot pay it back to upgrade storage
space later.

I think the storage space is the bigger dilemma than the finish, tbh. You picked 1TB for a reason, are you planning on using that space? If you are unsure, I would decline the offer as you will be stuck. Plus, if you already like Space Black, you will be stuck with a finish you potentially won't like.

My girlfriend has the one in Deep Purple, mine is Space Black. The way I look at the purple is like "it is really really cool and I like it a lot, but not for my daily driver personal phone, just something I like looking at", if that makes sense.

I like both but I am worried that they will fade in the corners and show the shiny steel. It will go in an Apple silicon case all the time. Any thoughts? For this reason I am targeting a silver.

Interesting. I have a gold 14pm and think it’s the best looking color this year. It’s a beautiful phone.

Thanks again, friends, for all your friendly advices and for helping me with making my decision. You have really come up with some good points.
I’ve decided to stick with my classy, elegant and versatile space black 1TB 14PM.
It’s served me very well since day 1 and I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever.
Now, I’ll just start counting hours until Apple releases 16.1 on Monday, and watch my iPhone get even better 😎

The colors are all meh this year. I got space black, but it’s really just a new shade of space grey. Wish Apple would get over the grey colors and give us an actual black. Not navy, black…

I also can’t recommend the space black for durability. I already have 2 small scratches on the sides from taking it in and out of a case a handful of times, and once where my finger slipped and my nail scraped the finish off the edge. I prefer the matte aluminum because it hides scuffs really well. Glossy stainless makes them extra noticeable.

Deep purple looks great and I was tempted but I just KNOW I would get bored with it, and black just goes better with a case. Space black is the way forward for me, a bit boring for some but it’s timeless and works for me.
